Creativity and Hands-On Learning in Elementary Science, Design and Technology Programs

Elementary teachers! Looking for some creative, hands-on problem solving projects to use in your classroom? Then this is the workshop for you! With a focus on the Grades 6,7 & 8 Science and Technology curriculum, you will use wood and moving parts to make a sample challenge project and discover great ideas to use with your classes. Integration is the key to “getting everything done” and engaging your students in hands-on activities and learning!

Marilyn Orszulik has been a teacher with the Toronto District School Board as a Design and Technology teacher for the past 16 years. After graduating in 1979 from Ryerson with a degree in Design, she worked as a commercial retail and office space designer for a number of years. Returning to obtain a degree in Education in Visual Arts in 1995, with Additional Qualifications as a Design and Technology Specialist, she has taught for the last 12 years at North Kipling Junior Middle School. This was a new school in 1999, where she had the opportunity to set up the Design and Technology workshop, as well as the Science Room. The Design and Technology program is integrated with Science and also makes connections with Mathematics, English and Visual Arts.
