YouTube Physics

"Youtube is a wonderful source of real world physics. Students often remark, “ Did you see the video of the world’s biggest waterslide - was it real or fake?” Videos can lead to a student asking, “ Can we try that”. Youtube videos can act as learning tools such as: 1. “Is it real or fake” debates or attempts to reproduce them, eg. cell phone popcorn popping 2. real world examples of physics phenomena ( jets landing in extreme crosswinds ) 3. hooks to grab their attention ( wing suit base jumping ) 4. demonstrations that are too dangerous or too expensive to perform 5. sources of motion which can be analysed using logger pro or equivalent Participants will learn how to download videos, convert them to a format for video analysis and analyse a motion video captured from Youtube. Participants will receive a DVD with Youtube videos for classroom use. Participants are invited to share favourite videos links. "

I have been teaching physics and science for the past 22 years. One of the reasons that my students have been successful in physics is that they see how it is applied in the real world. Every year my physics teaching style evolves as the result of implementing physics education research. My focus is on having the students actively learning rather than listening to me lecture to them
