Wikis, Blogs, Avatars...New Classroom Web Technologies

The Internet is a rapidly changing place. With the advent of Web 2.0 technologies, the content on the Internet is now placed in the hands of the users of the web, not just the developers. Our students are using many of these new technologies such as YouTube, Facebook, and MySpace on a daily basis. Learn how to integrate Web 2.0 technologies into your classes to help improve student engagement and learning while also providing the tools students need to work and learn in the 21st century. This seminar will examine more common tools such as wikis, blogs, and podcasting as well as explore other technologies such as Google Docs, avatars, RSS and student organizers. Real-world classroom examples will complement the introduction of these tools and technologies.

Matthew Campbell is Associate Faculty at Conestoga College in Kitchener, Ontario. He enjoys exploring the usages of new technologies in education, as well as scouring the web for the latest tool to show his students.
