ENERGY: WHERE ON EARTH ARE WE GOING?

The last few decades have seen growing concern among the public, in the media, and in the scientific community about humankind’s dependence on ever-increasing use of energy and the associated environmental impacts such as climate change. The era of cheap oil is drawing to a close, and attention is now being paid to other sources of energy. This talk will provide a look at past and present energy consumption, along with possible future use of wind, solar, and nuclear energy, and their environmental consequences. New technologies such as cleaner coal-burning and sequestration of carbon dioxide will also be discussed.
