Can Physics Experiments be Inexpensive and Accurate?

The challenge is to devise five experiments in elementary Physics using equipment that costs less than $5 and produces results reliably within 5%! This was the objective for an on-line distance education course being written for the University of Guelph. It turns out that the cost criterion can be met with some qualifications, when you consider the items that are usual in a household, and the accuracy criterion is too generous. The experiments are predominantly in the area of mechanics and optics; electricity has proven impregnable so far. I will describe the experiments and demonstrate the use of the apparatus.
