Developed in 1993, the Force Concept Inventory is a multiple choice diagnostic test designed to expose weaknesses in student conceptual understanding of Newtonian mechanics both prior to and, more importantly, after instruction in Newtonian mechanics. This tool can greatly aid teachers in identifying student difficulties which can hinder problem solving in certain areas of Newtonian mechanics. An outline of how to obtain the test as well as it implementation in the classroom will be given.
