“Seeing” Infrared
Ernie McFarland and Tom Kehn
University of Guelph

Two lecture demonstrations are described that involve “seeing” the infrared (IR) pulses from remote-control devices. One demonstration simply uses a video camera or digital still camera to show the flash of IR light emitted by a remote control. The second demonstration use an oscilloscope connected to an IR-sensitive photocell to display the coded time-dependence of the pulses from various buttons on a remote control.
